Spirit of the HAWK

This stick has had many incarnations. We have decorated it, lived with it, took off the decorations, started all over again at least twice maybe three times.

We're finally happy with it!

The willow tree that gave me this stick lives up near Wolf Ranch and Cumbre Vista here in Colorado Springs. I had to prune it a bit with my hoe when I was putting in a rip rap pit for the sub-divisions there. I made a total of five sticks from this same tree. That makes them "brother sticks"

Here are the other four sticks before their final embellishing

The Hawk stick is the same light color.

It has a bi-colored grip of deerskin laces, a fan of feathers, blue and bone beads, and a medicine bag with a hawk totem. It is inlaid with two blue stones.

Free worldwide shipping on this unique item. It would look at home in an office or den or used for Native American pow wows or reenactments.

The Beaver Gnawed Monkey Stick from 11 Mile Canyon

Admit it. You are intrigued, aren't you? A Beaver Gnawed Monkey Stick. Gotta see that!

This cane started it's life in 11 Mile Canyon in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. Take Hwy 24 West from Colorado Springs past Divide and you will soon see signs leading to this wondrous place.

Here the beaver eat the bark of  certain trees that grow in the region. It is always a thrill to pull a branch out of the water and see the distinct gnaw marks.

At first this stick didn't look like much. It sat outside our garage to dry for a couple of months before Jack would even look at it. But one day he called me outside and showed me what he had in mind.

It turned out great. I saw the monkey face right away. Jack denies it but others have commented on it too so I know I'm not crazy. Well, not totally crazy. It has a Mother-of-Pearl inlaid handle and a leather lace accent. Of course it can be cut to the perfect size for you and a rubber tip added for stability.

Welcome to the Dances With Pit Bulls STICK BLOG

my name is Rebecca and my husband, Jack, and I make walking sticks and canes. We have an Etsy.com shop for them  but to really appreciate them you need to touch them and hold them in your hand.

I hope to share what we do in a way so as to convey the heart and soul that goes into every one of our creations.
